Journey to the West is the life story of Tang Sanzang (唐三藏)/Xuanzang (玄奘), a character from the classic Chinese classic novel of the same name (西游记). Tang Sanzang went on to fetch the Buddhist scriptures from India (天竺/西天). The current volume in the Mandarin Chinese Reading Series includes both the Chinese text (simplified characters) and pinyin in the story form.
