A mega war does not last long as destruction in such a war becomes huge, both in terms of resources and lives so also Mahabharat war lasted only for eighteen days in which all the warriors from Kauravas' side and most of them from Pandavas' side were killed including all the sons of Pandavas. It is believed that the war took place due to family dispute but it was entirely due to himiliation and insults done by many of those participating in the war. Such incidences are mentioned in the book. It tells us that we must avoid humiliating and insulting others.
