This work explores the meaning of prehistoric rock art, especially that found in deep caves from the paleolithic era. It approaches the problem of interpetation by focusing on a key concept, that ritual and art were used to generate life. Past interprative frames, statistical studies and indigneous parrallels are summoned to examine this archetypal impulse within humans.
