A modern English translation of five of the earliest sutras from the Chinese Arthapada sutra (Yi Zu Jing), perhaps better known as the Atthakavagga sutta or the Chapter of Eights, from the Pali canon found in the Sutta Nipata collection. The Chinese parallel version like its Pali counterpart is a small and very old anthology containing 16 sutras, the anthology is also found in part in Sanskrit and Gandhari. Included in this volume are two fragment verses of the Gandhari source text from which the Chinese version may have been translated from along with the Chinese and Pali parallels of the two verses.
